I received my Bionic Runner June 2016. I stopped running for a few years as my knees started bothering me. The first few times I rode the bionic runner I could feel it was more of a workout compared to riding a bicycle. I used the Bionic Runner daily, running 5 kilometers a day for 3 months straight. After 3 months of daily use I was surprised to find the pain in my knees disappeared. My main goal purchasing the bionic runner was to be able to run on the boardwalk every morning. I was happy to achieve this goal and also to find that the bionic runner fixed my knee pain. I like that the bionic runner is easy to store and transport. The 8 gears are great for riding on windy days. The customer service has been excellent. The one main drawback is the price is a bit prohibitive. The Disc brakes sometimes need adjustment when they squeak so maybe regular bike brakes would be better. I wanted to suggest that they make a bionic runner that does not fold to make it even more sturdy, a bionic runner that has an adjustable handle bar stem for taller riders, a bionic runner that has a handle for transporting, and a bionic runner that has fat tires for better road performance, I was very surprised to see they addressed all these issues in the new predator model. I love the bionic runner. My goal was to run again without impact on my knees and the bionic runner solved that problem and actually made my knees pain free. I am very happy with my purchase. I followed the BR Facebook page for quite a while before I took a leap of faith I love it!
Family, friends, health, fitness, fun, being outdoors, all important things in my life. I felt like a door had been opened for me when I stumbled across the Bionic Runner on the internet. Hope, relief, that there was a way that I could continue to challenge myself, be upright and exercising outside. I loved the idea of non-impact running, what a wonderful way to cross train! Having been a Group Fitness Instructor for thirty years, a cyclist for 15, fitness is a passion for me. Can't say enough good things about it. Having had two cervical fusion surgery's has now impacted the way I can exercise. I followed the Bionic Runner Facebook page for quite a while before I took a leap of faith that this was going to be the right decision for me to purchase a Bionic Runner. I love it! I use it to cross train to keep my body healthy working my muscles in a different way without straining my neck. I use it to add to my weekly running mileage, and it has allowed me to stay strong and uninjured through several training cycles, including my last one when I ran the California International Marathon on my 60th birthday and beat the course record for my age group! I use it twice a week; once to commute 25 miles round trip to work, and once for a shorter ride. All told, it supplements my mileage in a way that lets me stay competitive while avoiding the pounding, and it has made me stronger! Have been addicted to riding it every day since then (weather permitting) What I love most about it is its ability to emulate the feel and training benefit of a running workout. In my case a track workout, as I generally take it to the track everyday. I go to the track at time periods when its fairly empty. The BR has totally transformed my training.
The bionic runner has totally transformed my training. From the day I first received it in June 2014, it has been a major part of my fitness life. It has helped me stay healthy and strong and achieve some of my longest running distances in training I have been able to reduce the impact of my running by 50% through incorporating the bionic runner into different workouts. I use it for Hill repeats tempos, intervals and bionic bricks (Brun- run-Brun ) last summer I have had some of my most enjoyable rides together with Luke McDonald throughout Nova Scotia. We turned a lot of heads. I had one of the best rides and work outs of my life when I did a 120 km ride around the South Shore of Nova Scotia, visiting many beaches in Seaside villages along the way. It was my final farewell ride before moving to Ontario and one that I will never forget. Today I could not imagine training without the bionic runner and I truly believe that it is what will keep me running late into my senior years. Thanks Steve Cranitch and the run 4 team I'm so happy when I can get people turned onto this great innovation. An hour on the BR leaves me feeling as if I ran for an hour
I've been training on my BR since September of 2015. It quickly became not only my favorite cross training to running but something I have used to replace many of my long runs in an effort to preserve my knees for the "long run" (see what I did there). I have 2 other stand up bikes which I use more for "touring" and rides over 25 miles (this since my BR is the original chain ring and would be difficult with steep hills on rides of that distance). There are so many things I love about my Bionic Runner but these are my top reasons: I love that I can get a superior workout in a short amount of time. I love that my training on the BR mimics running in most every way, including, heart rate, perceived exertion, calories burned and an hour on my BR leaves me feeling as if I ran for an hour. The best part about all this training is that I am able to substitute many of my runs for a BR run without losing running fitness and all while not putting any stress on my joints. Strengthening my running muscles, getting a great workout, including a runner's high and all the benefits of running without any of the negative effects to my body makes me forever grateful to Run4 (and Steve) for creating such a fine machine. My BR has allowed me to increase my mileage without the injury risk
I have owned a BR for six months and this is my first formal review. I wanted to wait until I had achieved success and that the reason I bought the BR had paid off. In short, the BR is amazing and worth every cent. I can confirm that it is possible to run a marathon (or in my case, a four day event) and substitute long runs with the BR. A bit of background, I had been running for about 12 months and decided that I wanted to the Dopey Challenge at Disneyworld (a 5km, 10km, half marathon and full marathon over four consecutive days). In my first twelve months of running, I had been plagued by ITB issues and foot pain and long distances just didn’t seem to agree with me. I was, however, undeterred in my goal. Under the guidance of the best physio in the world, Paul Trevethan, and running coach, Patrick Nispel, we devised a plan that would get me to the starting line injury free and based the training around the BR. Paul’s advice was to substitute as much of the long runs as possible on the BR. Every Dopey training plan focuses on back-to-back-to-back running days and we were going to deviate. Pat devised a training plan that put a lot of focus on the BR. I was skeptical and scared as I wasn’t sure I had prepared enough – isn’t the whole point of marathon training to pound the pavement and rack up the miles??? In all, it was a stunning success. I staved off injury all year, became aerobically fitter and gained significant strength in my legs. Even though I never ran a back-to-back day, or ran over 16 miles in training, I successfully completed Dopey injury free and with a smile on my face. Running, training and racing are a big part of our lives – we’re only competing against ourselves; but the sense of accomplishment and well-being can’t be measured. When we run well, that feeling spills over into our day. But, ugh, the injuries: hamstring, Achilles, knee stress – all stop the running overnight. Six months ago, we discovered the Bionic Runner through a friend, had one shipped to Nova Scotia and haven’t looked back. BR number 2 is now set up (no more drawing straws to ride); and five months’ in, we’re noticing a tremendous difference in our legs. Without question, the BR is extending our mileage and improving our running economy without the overload injuries. Our overall pace and endurance have improved – so brilliant – and combining the BR with running means our legs aren’t thrashed. Our big hope is to see the results this spring and Boston qualify. Since training with the BR my knees have improved.
Usually I am a nordic cross skater and I also like running but running is unfortunately not very healthy for my 50 year old knees. I am a good cook and I love eating and with this deadly combination you absolutely need to do sports even in winter. But cross skating is very bad on slippery and icy paths and bike driving does not burn enough calories. So I started a research and I found info about the Bionic Runner and I was deeply impressed immediately: lighter, cheaper, better movement and foldable. Perfect! So I ordered one without testing before and I did not regret. Best thing: If the weather starts to get really annoying just put that thing on an indoor trainer and have your workout in a warm and dry place. My hobbyroom is in the attic. No problem for the foldable design of the Bionic Runner. Ordering was easy, delivery was quick an reliable. Assembling works like a breeze thanks to the very good manual and the corresponding Youtube video. Also the first outdoor runs where great. Only little problem for the first meters for me was to overcome the reflex to sit down because some brain parts still think they are riding a bike...;-) Since I train with the BR my knees have become really better so that I am hoping – after some more BR training – to run again short distances in summer. The BR work is really demanding training with a direct transfer to running
Hi folks! Since I discover the BR, I ́ve been excited. Now I may say it is so due to four main reasons: first, I found the way to substitute de indoor elliptical machine that I needed to use avoiding injuries in my Achiles tendom but payed with a very boring inside work. Yes, I could watch the tv meanwhile but I was looking trough the window and I was needing to breath and smell there out and get the spanish sun on my skin. Second, I realiced the BR work is a real demand training with a direct transfer to run and good sensations, so that I often train 20% extended timing that initial thought. Third, I ́m excited to live the development of this creation, following every Mr. Steve and team step to offer something that will change many outside sports lives. I'm overjoyed that I can use it to get a proper non-impact lunchtime workout in 35-40 minutes
The best thing about the BR is that I can once again get to feel "running knackered"! I can't run due to a rich variety of foot, ankle and knee injuries and so have been cycling instead, but the way you feel after a bike ride is very different to the full-body worn-out feeling I used to love from running. It's been 10 years since I last felt that satisfying effect, until my BR arrived last year. I love the curious looks from passers by, I like the effort it takes to ride and the fact that it is so much slower than a road bike, I'm overjoyed that I can use it to get a proper non-impact lunchtime workout in 35-40 minutes (which I can't do on a bike - that takes longer thanks to its greater efficiency) but above all, the realisation that I can once more enjoy that post-run feeling makes the BR the best 'bike' I have (and I have a few - despite recently thinning out the garage, I still have a mountain bike, two road bikes - aluminium and carbon - and an Elliptigo 11R). A review of my BR2 after 6 months riding. I was prompted to buy the BR due to my worn-out knee cartilage severely restricting my running, with the because my knee cartilage was badly worn, thus restricting the amount of running I could manage, and continued running would eventually result in complete breakdown and no running at all. It seemed like a way to still get the enjoyment which comes from running and to maintain some running fitness without the detrimental impact on my knees, so as to allow me to continue to do some running for longer. I believe it has fulfilled those objectives to a fair extent – it does replicate the ‘feel’ of running quite well, it appears to exercise most of the running muscles, and it provides an excellent hard workout. My first couple of rides were interesting when I initially found the stirrups hitting the back of my calves, until I realised I wasn’t on my bike and stood up straighter. I was also a victim of the ‘grip of death’ and it took probably 4 or 5 rides to relax my hands more. I was a bit ambitious at first and found myself having to stop for some short breaks on a 23km BRun. At that stage I had not run for 3 months due to my knee pain, so had little running fitness. My forearms got fairly sore at first, probably due to my tight grip on the handlebar. However, my diary note for my 4th BRun says “Great BRun!” and my next one says “Felt good”. From then on it just got better, as I became stronger. At present, I am going out to about 40km most time and feeling pretty wrecked by the time I arrive back home. I like the fact that my heart rate is pretty similar to what it would be if I were actually running; it’s about 20 to 25bpm higher than my bike average and a couple of hours BRunning is much harder that the same time on the bike. Hello BR staff, I guess I can tell you why I"m using the BRunner for my training. It started about a year ago when a good running buddy got injured and they told him to really stop running before it can get worst. He loved running so he researched to find a way to continue without the impact. He found the BRunner. At first when I saw him riding it looked kind of funny. But he explain to us the benefits of it. A few months later my girlfriend purchased one. It was more for her to keep up with me during my longs runs. During my training for the NY marathon I got injured, having hamstring issues, but I could not stop with just less then a month away so I gave it a try. So i gave it a try n pushed it, I have to say after 3 miles on rolling hills it gave me a good workout on my quads. During my NY marathon at mile 16 I felt a bad pain in my hip that for the last 10 miles all i can do is just walk, a little jog, or stop. When I got back to San Diego, I rested a week or 2 and tried to run again. I could't last more then a half a mile before my leg gave out from underneath me. After going to the Dr. I had Labral Tears of the hip and a few other issues n the hip that 2 Dr's told me I need hip surgery. That's out of the question for me. My girlfriend (bless her heart) researched for other possibilities. After seeing the new Dr. he gave my options, which one of them was no impact of running for a few months while I was doing my treatment. I explain to him about the Brunner, he did some research of his own. He highly recommended for my training, I do an avg. of 30-40 miles a week and building my strength back in my hips. I'm still able to run with my team and get a great workout. My one teammates ask us to use it once in awhile for there training. I call the BR my best friend. It has help me continue to do what I love, to run. Right now all my training is being done on the BRunner till i get the Ok to run again. But I will definitely be combining regular runs and BR runs. My next marathon is St.George in Utah Oct 8th. Ill keep you posted in how it goes. It is the key to injury prevention
I also have a torn labrum since 2012. My hip has been good and injury free because I have reduced impact and strengthened my hips with the Bionic Runner. I have used the Bionic Runner steadily for the last 20'months and it is a key to injury prevention. I do not understand why more runners don't use these great tools. Steve Cranitch, have I said thank you yet? THANK YOU for your brilliant Bionic Runner! I love this thing. It might sound corny to say, but the BR has changed my life. I've had some issues that prevented me from running, but along came BR and everything changed. I'm able to get out, run hard, get a great workout, not kill myself, and have fun doing it. A few heads turn as I go by, but I know they're looking at BR and not me! Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for the Bionic Runner, and for the exceptional customer support that you and Carol provide. I feel very fortunate to have found you guys and the Bionic Runner.

I'm now incorporating the BR as my cross-training 2 times a week with 3 runs (speed, tempo, long). The quads and glutes workout in addition to cardio really helps with running stamina and strength.
No back issues with the BR
I have a split disc in my lower back that means a traditional bike is problematic for training or long rides. No back issues with the BR because I am head-up and straight back
